. Jenny was extremely
helpful and accommodating which was great because we only had one week
in the Falklands and
we didn't want to travel with a big group. Stanley Services
specializes in individual itineraries. Jenny met us at the airport upon arrival
and
for the rest of the week she made sure our internal flights were organized.
During our week's stay we traveled to Pebble Island, Sea Island and Stanley.
Pebble Island was the most intimate stay we had, we highly recommend it.
Sea Lion had the best wild life. The entire experience was incredible, would
have stayed a month or two if we could.
While in the Falklands, there are a few essentials you MUST have with you.
For starters, the place is WINDY so spend some money on a good windbreaker.
We didn't have windbreaker bottoms but in hindsight they would have been
helpful on a few occasions. You also need mitts or gloves. Waterproof hiking
shoes are really necessary if you're planning to hike extensively. On our
first day on Pebble Island, we hiked from 10am to 6pm nonstop so make sure
they're comfy too. Keen is the brand that we wore and we were so grateful
how good they were to our feet. A nice to have if you're planning on taking
plenty of pictures: a decent zoom lens.
Have some fears? One thing we worried about before we went was food. We were
concerned that the Falkland diet would contain a lot of red meat. Not the
case at all. We were able to eat plenty of veggie dishes, as well as fish
and chicken courses if we chose. We were also a bit worried about the
accommodations; would we stay in a log cabin with no heat? would it be wet?
etc, etc. No fear, each place we lodged was dry, warm and extremely
comfortable. And the Falkland folks like their booze thank goodness! The
wine with dinner was always excellent and we could enjoy an evening cocktail
or beer if we chose.
